Team 8layertech and KahelOS 2012

Last August 25, 8Layer Technologies in cooperation with Zenzic Community celebrated the 21st birthday of our favorite operating system Linux. The event is packed with topics that is stuff of any Linux fan’s dream. From setting up a working call center to sms system and creating music using Linux. Students from Our Lady of Fatima, PUP Manila and RTU filled up 8Layer’s offices to celebrate, exchange and mingle with fellow FOSS practitioners and advocates.

Team 8Layer Chief Architect Meric Mara opened the event followed by some testimonials by former 8Layer OJTs on how Linux made their lives easier. Mr. Jerico Milo from goAutodial shared Linux server applications they are using and how useful it is in their line of work. The topic of setting up a working call center system using Linux was shared by Engr. Rhoane Tanada which had a lot of question from the audience that was followed up by Macoy Mejia the man behind 8McDo who shared how Linux is thriving in the enterprise space. KahelOS’ Jasper Tomas talked how KahelOS was made. The talks were rounded up by a very creative and entertaining talk about music and Linux by Erwin Galang that saw students from participating schools went up against each other in a singing game. Lawrz Libo-on from the Philippine Open Source Network closed the program by reminding the attendees that the power to change is in their hands and to continue dreaming big.

Overall it was a very fruitful afternoon of knowledge, laughs and new friendships found to all that attended, we hope that next years will be filled with more stuff as Linux continues to grow and continue to help us in our everyday lives.
